Because the trial covers their ability to perform University duties, the University covers the fees. It makes sense, but still is a pretty crappy scenario. Especially considering the school could end up paying for a lot of Defense Attorneys. Students are, understandably, pissed that their tuition money is being used to pay for the defense of people thought to have covered up a child molester...but I don't know if that's entirely true, the funds could already be covered under certain processes I'm not familiar with. My understanding about the legal fees, though, is that it's covered by legal insurance. I don't know if the university even has the option of barring Curley/Schultz from that service under their contracts, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost PSU anything beyond the premiums that have already been paid.
